Karen Stamper was born and raised in Glasgow in 1975 and went on to study at Surrey Institute of Art and Design and the Nottingham Trent University. Since leaving art school Karen has built a successful career as an illustrator and graphic designer and all the while forging a reputation as an uncompromisingly enigmatic painter with a large body of work behind her.

The key to her passion is the escapism of getting ideas from brush to canvas, it’s as much about making her point as it is a cathartic release.

Karen\'s work is derived from emotional observation. It often blends sinister themes and beauty with a visual cacophony of colour, mixing abstract and figurative in a very unique way. On the one hand it\'s dark and uncertain yet on the other it\'s bright and enchanting.

It\'s an amalgamation of all the things that inspire her symbolism, innocence, politics, history, culture and love. The themes connect and ideas are conveyed into a world of pantomime, performance and carnival.
