Description:
Having worked for 35 years as an exhibition stand designer and visualiser I felt it was time for a change, I have always wanted to produce my own artwork, so I started to produce some simple illustrations of an area I know and love, in and around the village of Bradfield, and the surrounding countryside, where my wife and I spend time walking and cycling. I have also started producing urban landscapes of Sheffield city centre, as the son of an architect I have always taken a keen interest in architecture, and living in Sheffield, have quite a lot of subject matter to work on. My work uses the same commercial techniques I have learned over the last 35 years to produce vibrant and interesting compositions, and is produced by sketching out the initial subject matter, then using a pen to create a line drawing, this is then scanned into a computer, with all the texture and colour hand drawn using a mouse instead of a pencil or brush. Latterly I have been working on various other subject matters, such as cycling, sailing, and other towns - York and Whitby. Inspiration has come over the years by the work of Turner, the Impressionists, Expressionism, Cubism, and the Japanese artist Hokusai. I have sold my work over the last few years at local art markets, exhibited at art cafes, and sold my work through craft galleries, various branches of Waterstones book stores, Barnsley’s Cooper Gallery, Bessemer Gallery, and the Millennium Galleries both in Sheffield. A number of people have asked me to produce commissions ranging from houses, pubs, wedding venues, events, places, and 4x world champion mountain biker Steve Peat.
