‘Scapegoats of the 21st century'
This piece of political art depicts islamophobia and shows the constant abuse Muslim women go through. This is reinforced through the hand covering the subjects’ mouth symbolising the removal of the ability to speak and the physical abuse that Muslim women experience daily. The purpose of the piece is to represent the prejudice and discrimination against many Muslim women who choose to wear a headscarf and how the media and some high-profile politicians have scapegoated Muslims by igniting a flame of hatred. The words in the background are real comments said either online or by politicians.
