Inspired by her mother’s beautiful illustrations, Agwein Reid grew up drawing and painting and went onto gain an Advanced GNVQ in Art & Design at the Leeds College of Art and Design. This led to her discovering a love for textiles gaining a Bsc Textile Design Degree at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in Print Design. Upon graduation, using her Print Design specialism she experimented on her mother’s old singer sewing machine, making her textile prints into garments.

Coming from several generations of dressmakers from both her mother and father’s backgrounds, it seemed inevitable that Agwein Reid would naturally pursue her family’s heritage. From then on she developed her fashion career by achieving a Fashion Design & Manufacture Degree at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Her family’s dressmaking skills remain her inspiration, from her mother sewing her clothes as a child, to her 90 year old grandmother who still makes clothes today.

The Gwen Reid label is an affordable luxury womenswear brand. Incorporating Art & Design & Textiles, historical references are developed to produce timeless garments. Classics are updated with a twist whilst unique designs show quirky silhouettes. All incorporating textiles, fabric manipulation, surface pattern & print.
